Updates to the Moodle plugin

The Mediabird Study Notes Moodle activity now allows for reducing the feature set if required. This can be done from the activity admin settings in the admin panel. This way, technical universities can deactivate the translation function and human sciences can deactivate the equation editor to get an easier-to-use interface.

In addition to that, the overlay interface now allows for radically reducing the feature set for just having the in-place note taking function rather than an overblown overlay.

More on the Moodle plugin.

New Release

The release 0.5.2 brings a lot of new features, as anounced in a previous post.

First of all, it brings major improvements in the fields of stability and usability.

In particular for the application in group scenarios, the new version offers live editing and allows multiple users to create new note sheets in the same note folder at the same time. This makes it a lot easier to collaboratively create and annotate content.

Get a fresh copy.

Working on the next release

We're still working hard on the next release and getting Mediabird into Moodle.

A beta version of 0.5.2 has just been released and we will now focus on further documentation and debug.

We've improved security and stability in this release.

Feedback and bug reports are appreciated.

Relaunching the home page

As you will most probably have noticed, the Mediabird home page has been completely relaunched.

At the same time, new functionality has been added to the application and we are working hard to prepare the upcoming release 0.5.2 which will fix many many bugs of the 0.5.1 release and finally bring live editing capabilities.

Stay tuned.

Interview with co-founder Fabian Gebert: Why Mediabird?

Mediabird Co-Founder Fabian Gebert

What was the reason for starting the Mediabird project?

During my business studies I suffered a lot from not being able to properly prepare exams with what I had studied throughout the semester. Even though I still had all the lecture notes, solutions to exercises and text books, it still was a heck of a job to collect all the necessary information.

But is it really necessary to develop a new tool?

When Frank let me know about flash card strategies and context based learning, I was convinced that the current E-Learning landscape lacks a tool like Mediabird. A tool which lets you collect notes on your study subject and relate important info like questions or annotations to the notes to allow for later repetition.

Since I was developing and selling E-Learning solutions before my studies I decided to co-found Mediabird.

And what about other solutions such as Moodle, CommSy or OLAT?

We believe that there are very nice tools out there. And we work hard on integrating into these platforms in the best way we can. For instance, we have released a Moodle activity that seamlessly integrates into existing learning environments. Students will have the study environment they are used to, plus a tool like Mediabird that improves their study experience.
